Dear all,
The summer is, sadly, drawing to a close, but we've been lucky with the weather so far: hopefully that will last the rest of the season!
On the racing side, we've had some great days on the water, not least with 17 boats out for Bart's Bash and then many continuing on to the start of the autumn series. We also had the Washington Cup which saw light winds but fabulous racing and was ultimately won by Jamie - well done! The Thursday racing series culminated with Jamie taking a win there too. We also had the Ladies Plate, won by Claire and contested by 7 racers which was absolutely fabulous to see. And, not content with all that for September, there was also a brilliant turn out for the Double Handed Races with 8 boats out with friends, family and pair-ups all sailing together in some fickle and gusty wind - overall, it was Kieran and Edward who took the win. Thank you as ever to race officers, duty officers, assistants and rescue officer who make everything happen.
The 19th saw the Paxton Lakes' leg of the Youth League, where our cadets took home the team trophy - what stars!
And that's not all - the social sailors have been out on Fridays until the light (or lack thereof!) got to us and, of course, Saturdays, making the most of those beautiful afternoons we've been getting. Friday evening sailing may have come to an end for this year, but Friday evening socials still continue on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Fridays of the month: no need to work it out, just check the calendar on the website!
There are still 4 more weeks to get sailing in on a Saturday and racing on a Sunday and we'll finish the sailing season with the Halloween Bowl races starting at 11am on the 25th October (fancy dress encouraged!). Then, on the 1st November it'll be time for Laying Up Saturday where we'll convene for de-rigging.
Tickets for the laying up supper on the 7th November are now available on the website. We're pleased to say we've been able to keep the price rises for this event to a minimum.
Before we get to that though, Dave and Yvonne have put together what sounds like it should be an excellent quiz for us on Friday the 16th October. Come down to the club for a 7:30pm start and put your knowledge to the test! As with all our events, we'd love to see the whole family taking part.
