Wow! Winter working parties finish for 2025.
Wow. Our club has the best members (although some might say that we're biased...). With the dinghy season starting next week, it's the perfect chance to reflect on all the incredible work that's gone in to the boats, grounds and clubhouse over the winter working parties. In a truly great display of clubmanship, the last 10 Sundays have seen us in wellies, rain macs, overalls, gardening gloves and all other manner of

Tying the Week Together - Knots Night at Ely SC
Last night, Ely Sailing Club hosted a 'Knots & Nibbles' skills booster night. We roped in the fun, and it was great to see people unwinding at the club. And with the slightly warmer evenings (5 weeks until sailing is back!), the club felt very welcoming and alive; helped by the bubble of chatter as people came for a good evening out. Dave and Yvonne kindly offered to teach us some knots, and we

2025 Winter Working Parties
Today saw round #2 of the E.S.C winter working parties and despite some... adverse... weather conditions with wind and rain forecast, a strong band of merry helpers of all ages came to the club to chop, hack, dig and strim their way to a club ready for the coming season. Our club really does have the best members! In just 2 weeks, lots of work has been accomplished both inside and out

ESC 2024 Season Concludes with Boxing Day Races
And with that, the 2024 sailing season is wrapped up. Despite a less than promising forecast, there was a gentle breeze across the lake for the 2024 Boxing Day races for the 2 boats containing 3 happy sailors. A sadly smaller turnout than last year but still lots of fun! There was a thick mist across the lake when we arrived, and we slowly defrosted from our long winter's nap to rig the

Model Yachts - 30th November Sailing and New Wednesday Sessions
Saturday 30th saw some of the best Model Yacht sailing weather of the winter season so far with a good southerly breeze blowing for 10 keen sailors. Always keen to keep things interesting, the course was changed from the standard triangle format to an initial triangle followed by 2 gates prior to a finish across the line. The options for the gates increased the tactical element of the races as well as skill

Sweet Dreams are Made of Cheese: Cheese & Wine Night at ESC
This might sound so cheesy, but our cheese and wine night really was grate. We caerphilly selected a variety of cheese and wines so that everyone could have a gouda night. When we saw the cheese hedgehogs, we knew it really would brie a grape evening... It was lovely to see a good turnout for our September Social of a cheese & wine night at the club with lots of eating, drinking and

Seamanship Course wraps up 2024 sailing courses
Ely SC's wonderful instructors have rounded up sailing courses for 2024 with a very successful RYA Advanced Seamanship module course. 6 students learnt how to cope with the unexpected elements of sailing on this course such as sailing rudderless (which involved lots of circles before anyone managed it!), sailing without a board, reefing afloat, anchoring and even sailing backwards! Conditions for the course were great with a good breeze both days and as
