ESC May Day Weekend - Open Day & Camweld Cup

It's been a hive of activity at Ely SC this weekend and we've certainly been busy bees. The season is very definitely in full flow!
Saturday the 3rd kicked off with a fleet of members out in force with flags, bunting and banners to pretty-ify our little club for it's open day.
Despite some gusty conditions, we took plenty of keen beans out on sailing trips around the lake and it was fantastic to meet so many new faces of people keen to give sailing a go for the first time or get back in to it after a while.
Huge thanks to ESC members who showed up in force to support the club and everyone who came! It's very definitely a club to be proud to be part of.
But... We weren't done for the weekend by any means. Sunday saw even gustier conditions for the 5 brave/bold/reckless sailors who took to the pit for the Camweld Cup Races with 3 lasers, a solo and an enterprise out for the fun.
It was a close fought race day and all helms and crew did a fantastic job in some challenging and at times overpowering conditions - a few splash splashes but everyone left smiling. They contended with gusts, funky start lines and a few nasty wind shifts like the pros they are and It was incredible racing to watch with some serious planing on display. It was a close fought battle between all with some races having less than a 2 minute distribution on corrected time and the two leaders with equal points after 4 races and 2 firsts each but Jack snuck a win with the final 1st place.
Just one example of a busy ESC weekend - our members did our club proud, we had some incredible racing and some suitably obscure conversations at the end.
See you at the club soon! We've an action packed calendar planned for the season - make sure to keep an eye on the calendar!
