Whether you're completely new to the sport or looking to get back on the water, our Open Day is the perfect time to give it a go. Therefore, we are inviting the local community to come down to have a go at sailing with us, see what Ely Sailing Club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, you might just get hooked!
Starting at 1pm, on Saturday 2nd May, you're warmly invited to tour the lake and sample the delights of sailing by enjoying a FREE taster session out on the water in the capable hands of experienced sailors who will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have. All buoyancy aids will be provided. A similar session will take place in the evening of Friday 8th May.
As an RYA Training Centre, should you wish to progress your interest, our training team will be on hand to provide information about our RYA approved training courses together with details of membership. Hot & cold drinks, ice creams and small snacks will be available to purchase from the galley tuck shop at both events.
Sailing at Ely can be as physical or relaxing as you wish to make it, you can sail with others or on your own, do it competitively or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outside in the fresh air.
We would love for you to join us!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there parking available?
Yes, we have a small, grassed car park at the club which you can use for the event.
Is there a minimum/maximum age?
No but very young children must be able to suitably fit and remain in a buoyancy aid and typically, very little children/babies, may not enjoy the sensation of sailing. Anyone wanting to undertake a sail ride is required to be able to physically manoeuvre in to and out of the boat. Please note that it is a helm's decision as to taking anyone aboard.
Will I get wet?
We will try and not get you wet, and it's very unlikely, but, sailing is a water sport and there is always a small risk of getting wet so brining spare clothes is advised.
Your feet will be most likely to get splashed so wear quick dry shoes or bring a spare pair!
What to bring?
Yourself. Suitable, closed toe footwear. Small change/card if you'd like to purchase any snacks or drinks.
Can I sign up to training courses?
Yes, if you're hooked on sailing, you can speak to our instructing team on the day and, if desired, book on to a course.
