Commodore's Newsletter - January 2022
Hello All, We are now well into January and the New Year seems a long time ago. That means the start of the sailing season will be on us before we know it. Working Parties The winter working parties have been busy and already done some amazing clearing of the vegetation on the banks in front of the clubhouse and much of the main island. We have also devoured many bacon butties and some rather tasty waffles last Sunday. There is still plenty more to do so please come down and join in if you can spare the time. The working parties will be every Sunday from 11 till around 2 or 3 pm with lunch provided to keep your energy levels up. Bring along your favourite gardening tools (though the club has a collection of tools as well), some strong boots and gloves and lend a hand. Friday Bar Evenings To brighten up the winter evenings and see off the working week we are opening the bar on the first and third Fridays of every month from around 7pm. This Friday (21st) happens to be one of those and if you would like to come down you will find Steve not only helping to drain the bar, but also entertaining us with a First Aid skills lab and maybe a quiz if we have the numbers. I'm sure it will be fun for all, whether or not you have any First Aid knowledge. Other Friday bar themes are: 4th Feb - Games Night 18th Feb - Quiz Night
Membership Renewals Another aspect of the new year is the membership renewals. You should see the reminder landing in your inbox around the start of February, but there is no need to wait for that. You can log into your webcollect account at any time to renew your subscription. A few members have done that already (even one in December).
Model Boats And don't forget that the model boat sailors keep going through the winter. There was a 5 boat fleet and some good racing last Saturday despite the freezing weather. It will be running every Saturday afternoon from 1 pm whenever the weather is suitable.
That's all for now,
Ely Sailing Club
