Commodore's Newsletter - April '22

Hello All,

Spring is here and the sailing season has got underway with some brilliant weather. Last weekend saw a good few club boats being taken out and a turnout of 10 boats for the first day of racing. The results can be found here: https://www.sailwave.com/results/elysc_spring.htm and they will be updated for each day of racing. The link can also be found on the website.

Easter Trophy

This coming Sunday is the first trophy event of the year with four handicap races (3 to count) starting at 11:00. There is a very nice carved wooden trophy up for grabs as well as a chocolate egg for first place and first cadet.

Commodore's Reception

Next Friday (the 22nd) from 6:30 there will be drinks with various snacks and cakes to welcome new members from last year and this. This gives you a chance to get to know the committee and other members of the club, talk about how you can get the most out of your membership, and make suggestions of what you would like to see from the club. So please join me at any point in the evening to enjoy the club and surroundings.

Open Day

The sailing club will be hosting an open afternoon on Saturday 7th May and an evening on Friday 13th. We will be taking people out in the Wayfarers and Laser 2000s and there will be a food van on site. These are ideal occasions to bring your friends along and introduce them to sailing and the club. I will circulate posters in the next week or so and if you could print some off and disaply them on notice boards at schools or workplaces that would be helpful.

The courses are booking up fast (the May course is already sold out) so head to https://webcollect.org.uk/esc/category/training-senior-and-cadet to find a course that suits you and book your places while they are still available.

Model Boats

The results of the Winter Series (2nd October to 26th March) are in. Out of 126 races over 19 days of racing, first place goes to Gil Hart with 80 points. Second place to myself (100 pts) with Kieren Vanhoutte (132 pts) narrowly beating Graham Tory (134 pts) to 3rd place and Ken Wheeler finishing 5th (158 pts). The racing takes place from 5:00pm every Tuesday.
