OVERNIGHT RACE - Saturday 22nd June - 7.00pm until sunrise

This is the second year that we will be holding an overnight race and if last year was anything to go by, then a lot of fun, laughs and merriment is to be expected.

  • Please arrive for 7pm to organise yourself into teams for racing to begin at 8pm.

  • A minimum of 4 per team is best, as two will sail for however long you choose. Maybe one or two laps, or half an hour, it’s entirely up to you, while your other team members offer you advice in the dark whilst having a drink on the bank!

  • Family and friends are welcome to support you, so please do encourage them to come along.

  • The BBQ will be available for you to cook your own food throughout the night.

  • Cadets are also welcome to take part for as long as they are able to stay awake.

If you would like to participate, then please register below, so that we have an idea of numbers and how many double handed boats will be needed.

If you fancy giving racing a go in this fun, semi-competitive event, then we would love to hear from you. The event is ideal for anyone, both cadets and adults (Mike Williams, we salute you - we just need to work on Alison Coe and others now??) who would like to sail against Topper sailors from other local clubs. Prizes are on offer for the top three participants. There are 4 races with 3 to count. Briefing at 10.30am followed by the first race at 11.00am.

If you wish to take part in this Open Event, could I please ask that you let me know, as we are offering the Toppers out for hire on a first come first served basis. To take part and to reserve a Topper please contact Topper Fleet Captain, Kirk Stamford on training.elysc@gmail.com

CAMBS YOUTH SAILING LEAGUE EVENT - Saturday 13th July - 9.00am

All cadet sailors are encouraged to take part in this event, racing against other people of similar age. The racing is fun, whilst also having some competitiveness to make it suitable for everyone. No racing experience is necessary.

The day starts with a briefing at 10:30am followed by the first race at 11:00am. You are encouraged to arrive at about 9:00 am to provide sufficient time for rigging. There will be 3 races with 2 to count on the day meaning the most unfavourable result is discarded.

If you wish to take part in this Youth League Event, could I please ask that you let me know, as we are offering the Toppers out for hire on a first come first served basis. To take part and to reserve a Topper please contact Cadet Officer, Kirk Stamford on training.elysc@gmail.com

ADULT AND CHILD SAILING COURSE AVAILABILITY - Saturday 15th/Sunday 16th June - 9.00am If anyone wishes to progress their sailing to the next level there are still some spaces available for this course for both the Adult Level 2 and Child Stage 2 qualification.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWEST MEMBERS Congratulations and well done to all the recent adult and children's course attendees for successfully completing their RYA Level 1 and 2 and Stage 1 and 2 qualifications respectively. We hope you learned much and had fun on the water. As a fully-fledged member club dinghies are available for you to hire. We have, in fact, already witnessed Wesley Joseph, Fernando Calamonte, Tibor Takacs and Maciej Majewski taking part in their first races and looking at home and very accomplished indeed. It's lovely to see you enjoying your new found hobby and you are most welcome at Ely Sailing Club.

WELL DONE TO THE TRAINING TEAM A well deserved congratulations is offered to the the Training Principal, Steve Board and to the rest of the training team. This is not only for their willingness as volunteers to give up their free time to enthusiastically train and impart their knowledge to those who wish to learn the art of sailing. But, and it's a big but, the RYA has yet again inspected our facilities, our methods and our instructors and passed the Training Centre of the club with flying colours with no faults what so ever. Well done! You should be very proud of that achievement as indeed we all are of you guys!

That's all for the moment, but please look out for more information either on the website, around the club or by contacting commodore.elysc@gmail.com
