Thomas Alderton Claims Cadet Camp Regatta Award
After an action packed few days of sailing in this year's Cadet Camp, the event was rounded off with a regatta for all cadets to test themselves against one another, to see who could claim the Cadet Camp Regatta Award.
Initially, the first race was held with two starts, one for the double handers, and one for the single handers. The second race was held straight after the first, and consisted of just one large combined start. Both races were two laps sailing a rectangular course.
After a short break, the final Medal Race was sailed, using the double points Olympic style scoring method. Once again, all boats started at the same time, and a massive improvement was seen, with cadets pushing themselves and trying their hand at roll tacking, kiting and other advanced sailing manoeuvres.
Eventually, the winner was crowned in front of a clubhouse packed full of cadets, parents and instructors. We are pleased to congratulate Thomas Alderton for winning this year's award! Thomas will be awarded for a second time with his award at the Ely Sailing Club Laying Up Supper.
Well done to all the other cadets too. You all sailed superbly, and showed massive improvement not just over the course of Cadet Camp, but also throughout the regatta.
