Commodore's Communiqué

Hopefully a great sporting Summer is about to start. There are a number of items your General Committee and I would like to let you know about and remind you about.

Our Training Principal, Steve Board, has kindly offered to run a session on the techniques to use when rescuing using the safety boats. If you would like to participate in this, please let Steve or myself know.

The Partners Race (1 hour on the water with your Partner) is now scheduled for 11am on 3rd July.

Please look out for your invitation to Ely Sailing Club's 70th Anniversary Celebration Dinner Dance. Keep the date of Friday 9th September free. Menu choices and details of how to get your tickets will be dropping through your letterbox by the end of the month.

Just a reminder that you as a member can bring a guest to the club to sail on three occasions. All you need to do is sign them into the guest book which can be found on the right hand end of the bar. When they decide they like our sport of sailing, sign them up as members and enjoy being members of one of the only clubs in the country where you can sail without getting your feet wet.

We need to replace the decking between the bottom of the steps and the gate to the dinghy park. It would be great if this work could be done by 11th August. On the 11th July at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse there will be a working party sub-committee meeting. If you have any skills that would be useful with maintenance of club facilities, then please come to the meeting (refreshments will be available).

Final point, a few bits have been going walkies from boats, mainly bungs off the Wayfarers. Please can we ensure that we have owner's permission before borrowing and ensure items are returned to their owners when necessary.

Finally, please can we ask you to confirm your Dutyman duties. It allows the committee to ensure all sessions are covered to allow them to go ahead. Its for everyone's benefit. To do this, simply log in to Dutyman and on the right hand side panel, click 'Confirm Your Duties'. It will then guide you through the process. It would be great to see all the duties ticked for the rest of the season. Dutyman can be accessed on the website homepage or HERE.

With kindest regards and see you on the water, your Commodore Alayne
