Paxton Youth League 2015
The final event of the Cambs Youth League was held at Paxton Lakes Sailing Club on Saturday. With next to no wind, the race organisers had a tough job on their hands to try and set a course. Despite the dying breeze, the sailors completed all three races, albeit only one lap for the last.
The Ely sailors did Ely proud representing their club in the event. Chandler Stamford in his Laser full rig competed against 7 other laser sailors and had a successful day coming 2nd, 3rd and 9th after a false start penalty on the final race. Kirk Stamford in his Topper competed equally as successfully against six Toppers coming 8th, 10th and 5th. Ted Pepper also in a Topper came 9th, 12th and 6th. Both Kirk and Ted improved their positions massively throughout the day climbing up the score board.
Overall on the day, Chandler was third, Kirk was eighth, and Ted was ninth counting their best two positions and discarding their worst.
As the final event in the seasonal series, the overall awards were given out for the total races sailed over the five events sailed throughout the year. The Ely Sailor’s finishing positions were as follows. Jack Knight who didn’t attend on the day came fourth, Chandler was fifth, Kirk was tenth and Ted was thirteenth. In addition, Ely sailors Matthew and Laura Campbell who sailed the Cam and Ely events came 35th and 30th respectively. Jamie Cammann and Rhys Williams who only sailed the Ely event came 31st and 52nd respectively. Also, Izzy Duckworth who sailed at the Hunts event came 55th of 63 competitors.
A massive well done goes to all those who sailed and especially the Ely Sailors who did their club proud throughout the year.
