Commodore's Communiqué

I hope you had a great Summer Sailing it is now full steam ahead into a hectic End of Season programme.

This weekend is the Solo Open on Saturday briefing at 10.30am followed by Bart’s Bash at 1pm on Sunday. Let us see if we can beat the turn out from last year. 22 plus would be great.

There will be a meet and greet BBQ on Sunday afternoon following the racing. It would be great to see as many of you as possible at the Club if not racing just enjoying the weather.

Race Training has also started on Sunday Mornings 10.30am rigged until 12.30pm. Please see the website for details. Your opportunity to improve, hone or create some essential racing skills and strategies.

If you would like to cheer on our cadet team they will be racing at Hunts Sailing Club in St Neots this Saturday 19th Sept. also.

Looking forward to November our Laying Up Supper this will be in the Club house on 14th November 2015 at 7.30pm. The plan is for a Lamb roast. Please book your tickets by end October so that we can give numbers to the caterers. For those of you new to the Club it is the event at which all the prizes for the year are presented. So that we can check the condition of the trophies, we would like them to be handed back in polished and engraved by Sunday 18th October so that there is enough time to make sure they are all available for this year’s winners. There are a number of awards that are nominated and voted for by the committee these include Most improved helm, Most improved cadet, Crews cup, Social Sailor of the Year, Clubmanship award, Travellers Trophy for the person who has spread the name of Ely SC and the most keenly contested King or Queen Duck for the most spectacular capsize. So don’t think just because you have not won a series or Bank Holiday Trophy or Open event then there is no point going just to clap those who have. It is a great opportunity to see all the trophies in one place and decide what to set your sight on winning in our 70th year 2016.

The radio controlled section of the club are also presented with their trophies at this event.

See you on the water at Bart’s Bash if not before.

Your Commodore Alayne
