Commodore's Communiqué

Hello Members

Now it is warm there is no excuse not to come down to the Club if not to sail then just to enjoy the surroundings with a long cool drink.

It has been a busy June with all the events, courses and training sessions taking place as scheduled, except the partners race which will be re-run in August. Watch this space for details.

The Ladies Plate saw new and old members team up and race in Enterprises and Emma Rees race in a Topper. Gary Ungless set some interesting courses in flukey conditions. A great warm nibbles tea with the obligatory Strawberries and fresh cream scones was shared by past Ladies’ Plate winners and new female members. The guys also shared the spoils. Anna Lane in her first racing experience won with yours truly sitting a very close second. The crew always wins.

The Topper Open had six of our newest members battling it out with three different race winners. Ted Pepper in his first competition narrowly beat Rhys Williams. Rhys lost his mainsheet and should have won the second race. Oh for a figure of eight knot. Mike Williams came third.

The Enterprise Open was attended by two visiting boats and three local boats. Andy and Hannah Wilcox came third to the visitors. Ted Pepper was again in action this time crewing for Alan White. Jack Knight and Molly Lee were the third Ely boat.

Nearly eighty 10 and 11 year old from Ely St Mary’s Junior School have successfully completed the RYA Stage 1 course and it is good to see that some of them are already regular visitors to the Club.

Beavers and Guides have been given the chance to take to the water and my thanks goes to all those who have made these sessions so successful. You know who you are. If you would like to get involved helping with showing our Club at its best we still have some more sessions to run in July.

The perfect conditions of last Saturday saw all 17 of the Club Boats on the water for the first time. Come and join the fun or alternatively Paxton Lakes are holding their annual 24hr race on 11th /12th July, North West Norfolk Week and Bass Week also start on August 1st if you fancy racing somewhere different. Details can be found on the following web sites: www.PaxtonLakes.org.uk www.bassenthwaite-sc.org.uk and www.norfolkweek.co.uk

See you soon, with kindest regards
